Echoes, the new single by Ida Wenøe, came out on 21st May 2021, the second track from the former Danish Music Award nominee’s forthcoming third album.
The self-produced single was mixed in Sweden by Tobias Fröberg (Ane Brun, Peter Bjorn & John) and returned to Denmark for mastering by Emil Thomsen (Nils Frahm, Lydmor, Lowly). A song of two equally gorgeous halves, Ida’s voice and finger-picked ’59 Guild take centre stage in the stark Nordic-noir of Act 1, before the full band join the fray for an upbeat Act 2 drenched in Ida’s characteristic blend of Americana and classic English folk.
The song’s theme explores our distant memories of who we once were, now just an echo from afar. The love we once experienced, so great, with its warm embrace, is now a distant Bel Canto, a vague echo, no more than a mild tingling on the surface of the skin.
With a nod to the creative block she suffered during the early part of lock-down, Ida adds:
“What is a song if not its story? What is a song if not its feeling? What do we do when emptiness strikes and the well of inspiration has not a drop of water left? We borrow from others; make their voices our own. This is what ‘Echoes’ is … The vague sound of memories, and voices borrowed.”
Singles from Ida’s critically acclaimed second album, 2019’s The Things We Don’t Know Yet, enjoyed support on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 4, Amazing Radio, BBC Wales, BBC Cambridge, BBC Suffolk, BBC Shropshire and BBC Radio Ulster, international radio including Seattle’s super-cool KEXP, several playlist adds by the Spotify and Deezer editorial teams & praise from international tastemaker press.
