Tribes of Europe is the alter ego of multi-instrumentalist Martin Elsey whose releases have enjoyed support on BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction, BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Wales and a number of specialist shows online.
Composing inner and outer space music for the good children of Earth and other planets, Tribes of Europe blend electronica, field recordings and found-sound samples with spoken word and ambient soundscapes, at times inspired by the landscape and people of the Fens where Martin is based. He frequently returns to classic song forms, maintaining “whether it’s a top-twenty hit or a folk ballad, at its best the song beats any other art medium in its ability to communicate information, emotion and essence so widely and deeply, and in such a compact package”.
Over the course of 2 EPs and several singles, Tribes of Europe have collaborated with the likes of Second Harmonic Generation (Karsten Koehler), Skeleton Hand (including C. Joynes), Connor Browne and, most recently, late-70’s feminist-rock iconoclast Barbara Stretch.
